Updated build for Ubuntu 18.04 will be needed
Ubuntu 18.04 bumps the OpenSSL version and breaks WhatPulse 2.8.2 (with the well-known "AES functions" error) unless one manually downgrades the `libssl1.0.0` and `libssl-dev` packages to version 1.0.2g-1ubuntu4.11 (from the xenial repos).
I have held both packages for now, but this shouldn't be a permanent state for my Ubuntu system (this already breaks installing other development libraries like `libgnutls-dev`): Code: $ apt list --upgradable Honestly I thought WhatPulse's Linux support was better than this. Instead of manual downloads, there should really be proper package repos available for the supported Linux distributions if you won't let us build the client ourselves from source. (I'd be happy to do so, but I understand the WhatPulse client is currently closed-source.) |

Yes. Please compile Whatpulse with support for OpenSSL 1.1.x.
Running Mageia Cauldron and I, too, had to downgrade to 1.0.x to get it to run and it causes issues for me. Cheers, kekePower |

I've got the same problem. My stats have halted since I have upgraded Ubuntu to version 18.04.

Yes same problem here. I have been pulsing for couple months and the distribution update completely breaks the application. I am wondering why WhatPulse developers are not paying attention to this problem since it seems to be a wide spread problem right now on multiple linux distributions that have upgraded their OpenSSL lib to 1.1.x.

@smitmartijin, perhaps you'd consider an AppImage or Snap package? Those package formats bring all of the application dependencies into the package itself, so you needn't worry about what version is installed on the system. It would make the WhatPulse package larger, of course (and the existing package formats could continue existing for users who can use them), but would definitely be more widely compatible.

I think a snap package would definitely help out this problem. Would love to see this fixed somehow, as I've upgraded my five machines to 18.04 and am not unable to use Whatpulse.

Hi, I'm also affected by the problem. Any news on a new build supporting SSL 1.1.x libs?

RE: Updated build for Ubuntu 18.04 will be needed
It seems that WhatPulse still doesn't run on Ubuntu 18.04. I just upgraded after my computer's been bugging me about it for several weeks, and I still getting the AES issue caused by the updated version of openssl.
I've been using WhatPulse for several years and would really love to keep my stats updated. |
